Quickfacts - Baltic Rally Winter Edition

February & March are the best months to take in the bright spectacle of the Northern Lights—AKA the aurora borealis—in Northern Scandinavia.

Under clear skies, this is what you can look forward to:

  • 9 of 10 nights in the region Tromsø, northern Norway
  • 8 of 10 nights near Kiruna in northern Sweden
  • 7 of 10 nights in the Finnish Lapland

Even in winter, the sun shines in the Arctic!

At the time the rally takes place (end of February/beginning of March), the days are already more than 10 hours long.

The sun rises at around 7 a.m. and sets around 5 p.m.

And at night under the moonlight, the snow shines brilliantly, too!

Starting Line and Finish Line in Hamburg
7,500 km in 16 days through

  • Scandinavia:
    Denmark, Sweden, Norway & Finland
  • Arctic Circle, Lapland & North Cape
  • Optional: Russia, incl. St. Petersburg
  • Baltic States:
    Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania
  • Poland

From setting up a makeshift camp right on a glacier, to sharing a log cabin with the local beavers, to booking a luxury hotel complete with a bottle of bubbly—anything goes! Choose your own lodgings depending on your budget and your notion of “adventure.”

Even playing it by ear and deciding as you go has worked out for teams in the past and generally isn’t a problem in the time period the rally takes place.

The conditions of the roads during the rally couldn’t be any more unpredictable:

from dry asphalt lanes at 10 degrees C,
to snow-covered dirt roads
at minus 20 degrees C,
through to icy pothole parkour tours
at 0 degrees C.

Anything’s possible and there’s a little something for everyone!

Just as with any adventure rally—but especially in winter—choosing the right tires is a science unto itself.

Really good winter tires are an absolute must!

Whether you’re allowed to use spiked/studded tires depends on each country’s road regulations. If you want to cruise with spikes, you should wait until Scandinavia to put them on, as they are generally forbidden in Germany.

  • No GPS
  • No navigation system
  • No highways/motorways
  • More adventure!

The Roadbook awaits you and your team, filled with great suggestions for your trip in addition to cool challenges and opportunities for extra fun. The activities and tips in the Roadbook are just a bonus, not mandatory!

How many members can a team have?
There’s no upper limit. But you do all have to fit in the vehicle!

Each team should collect €750 by the time they cross the Finish Line.

Entry fee:
A two-person team starts out at €1,090.
Each additional member costs €300.

At the Starting Line of the BSC Winter Edition in Hamburg, your team will be given the Roadbook, which is packed with useful tips for your route, unbelievable challenges, and plenty of suggestions to maximize your fun and get the most out of your adventure.

The activities and adventures are best undertaken as a team. Creativity and a talent for improvisation are your best assets here!

In Hamburg we’ll celebrate the successful conclusion of the BSC Winter Edition with a big send-off party and, of course, we’ll crown the winners!

The winning team of the Baltic Sea Circle Winter Edition Roadbook Competition will win a starting position at a future S.A.C rally of their choice at a value of €1,090!

No obligations, just a load of possibilities!

Along the way around the frozen Baltic Sea we’re going to party like crazy together.

In the Arctic Circle we’ll meet for a test drive on an ice rally track and in the Baltic States we’ll pitch a tent together for a true winter-style fête. The exact party locations are staying our little secret up until the Rally Start….

Creativity pays off!
Teams with extravagant costumes and eye-catching vehicle decorations will be awarded extra points by the rally jury.

Whether you dazzle your fellow drivers with slick racing stripes and fluttering flags or go full techie with flashing disco lights on your radiator, we’re looking forward to seeing how you bring it.
Anything goes as long as it’s street-legal.

The Rally Kit has everything that belongs at an official rally:

  • rally vehicle branding with the official Baltic Rally Winter logos and your official rally starting numbers
  • rally hoodies
  • awesome additional BSC Winter merchandise

Your team will receive the Rally Kit 4 weeks before the Rally Start.

The registration fee for the BSC Winter Edition is €1,090 for a two-person team. Each additional team member costs €300.

Additional team members can be added up to 1 month before the Rally Start.

The registration fee does not include the charitable donation of €750.

You can either collect for one of our selected charity partners or choose a charity project that has always been close to your heart. Charity donations can be collected any time from the date you sign up to the moment you cross the Finish Line. More
